How to become a Referee

New Referees

Becoming an AYSO referee is a four-step process. The first two steps are the same for all AYSO volunteers.

  • STEP 1 – Complete your volunteer application.

Log in to eayso.org and select "Apply as new adult volunteer", "Apply as continuing adult volunteer", or "Update volunteer information"

Complete the volunteer application, indicating that you wish to volunteer as "Referee"

E-sign your volunteer application. Print 2 copies and bring with you to referee class.

E-mail rra@ayso677.org so we know you are doing this process and will be attending the class.

  • STEP 2 – Complete Safe Haven certification

Log in to aysotraining.org

Click on "Courses" to see a list of online courses, and then click on the Safe Haven course

PRINT your certificate and bring it with you to referee training

To log in to aysotraining.org, you'll need your eayso ID. If you can't remember your ID, just log in to eayso.org and click "Update volunteer information".

  • STEP 3 – Complete Concussion Awareness certification

Log in to aysotraining.org

Click on "Courses" to see a list of online courses, and then click on the Concussion Awareness course

PRINT your certificate and bring it with you to referee training

To log in to aysotraining.org, you'll need your eayso ID. If you can't remember your ID, just log in to eayso.org and click "Update volunteer information".

  • STEP 4 – Sign up for training and attend the course. (we offer 2 classes...see below)

Log in to eayso.org

Click on "Course Signup" under "My eAYSO" (on the blue bar at the top of the screen)

Search for courses offered nearby (we are Section 10, Area S, Region 677, if you want to find a course available in our local region)

Select the course you wish to attend and click "Course signup"

Prerequisites for the Class

  • You must be at least 12 years of age.
  • You must be a registered Volunteer. (insurance reasons)
  • You must complete BOTH the "Safe Haven" and "Concussion Awareness"  at www.aysotraining.org
  • You must register for the course at www.eayso.org (course # 201604280 or 201604281)
There is also an "Online Referee Course" at aysotraining. You are NOT required to do this.
It may be good background if you want. It is NOT a substitute for Certification as a Regional Referee. Consider it background information or as a place to start IF you want.

We will provide lunch and beverages during the daytime session.

Location will be LaMesa Junior High School. Exact classroom TBA

Any questions? Please email RRA@ayso677.org

Returning Referees

The Basic Referee Online Training Course is a great way to refresh your knowledge before the season starts!

All AYSO volunteers must submit a new volunteer application each year: (That includes me)

Log in to eayso.org and select "Apply as continuing adult volunteer"

Complete the volunteer application, indicating that you wish to volunteer as "Referee"

E-sign your volunteer application

E-mail rra@ayso677.org so we can track processing of your application and notify if there are any errors or problems.

If you have not taken Safe Haven Certification since July 2013, you need to take it again as it has been updated with additional information:

Log in to aysotraining.com

Click on "Courses" to see a list of online courses, and then click on the Safe Haven course

Referee Online Scheduling

This is the link to Referee Scheduling System.     **  Ref Scheduling  **

There is a link on that page to register if you are not yet part of the Online Ref Schedule System.

Note: The online Referee Scheduling system has nothing to do with eAYSO or being a Registered Volunteer. The online Referee Scheduler is an online database that Region 677 uses so that referees can schedule their matches. You have to be a Certified Referee to use the system.

Referee Staff

We used to have Referee Staff. Unfortunately after many years of great service, they have moved on.

We NEED some referee staff. We need Referee Schedulers. If you can help, please email rra@ayso677.org
